Shaniwarwada in pune was illuminated with different lamps. People thought if it is Diwali today ? Diwankhana was decorated with soft carpets. Every one was looking towards the doors. The servant came and announced that Maharaj has arrived. Peshve welcomed Maharaj. Maharaj started his “Kitana”. Everyone was showered in Bhakti Rasa for almost next few hours. Who was this Maharaj, who enchanted audience with Kirtaa? He was Sant Amrutray from Paithan. We will go through the charitra of Shri Amrutray Maharaj. Amrutray, often called as Rayji was born on Chitra Shudha Shashthi in Shaka 1920 (1698 A.D.) in Sakharkherda, a village in Sindkhedraja Tehsil I Buldhana Distric Maharashtra. His Parents Uma & Shankar named him “Amrut” as a blessing from Lord Amruteshwar. Amrut got his education at home form parents. Amrut was talented and extra-ordinary. In small age, he learnt and mastered five languages i.e. Sanskrit, Marathi, Hindi, Urdu & Parsi. At the age of 11, he composed his first poem on MaHaDeVa. The beauty of this composition is, if e read the first word of each line, it will result in word :MaHaDeVa. It is in the same way, Samarth Ramdas composed a message to Chatrapati Shivaji. AT the age of xx, Rayji was married to Rama from Aurangabad. After “Nirvana” of his parents, Rayji felt alone in Sakharkherda. He moved to Aurangabad for job, and joined with that time politional Viso More. Rayji was physically fit. Soon he got commanding force of 500 horses. His wisdom attracted people and soon he become popular. After finishing the work in office, he use to perform Kirtana in evening at Khadkeshwara Temple. One day Amrut noticed a Sadhu in saffron apparel & teased him. After kirtana, Sadhu told him how sweet his name is and how sweet is hi voice. One should use this for good speaking as well as for welfare of common people. Amrut got Viveka from this source and accepted Sadhu as his spiritual Guru. The sadhu was no one but Sant madhwamunishwar from Shendurwada. This was starting of a new era. The change ini Amrut can be noticed by his composition Thus, Rayji composed lot of literature to spread awareness in people. His period was end of Peshvai. People changed their lifestyle. People changed attitude to look towards traditional literature. Ovi & Shlok were losing popularity. People were engaged in adornment. Rayji noticed the chage and donated “Katav’ first of its kind in Marathi to Maharashtra Saraswat. When one sing katav, listeners engross in that literature He used Ornates, Rhymes & Aliteration in his verse. The way he interweaved his name in composition is tricky. Another important part of his literature is Gazal. Rayji is the first marathi gazalkar. His gazals are full of bhaktirasa (not as other gazals with lust). Knowing kirtana as powerful tool of social awareness, he spend all his life for kirtana. His composistions are very useful or kirtankaras. For social awareness, he traveled a lot ad also gathered experience from it. Rayji was a famous kirtankar. He was having reputation in Peshwaa’s Shaniwarwada, Nizam & Holkar’a cowet. Viso More, his superior in job was unable to bear Rayji’s fame. Knowig this Rayji resigned from his job. And he utilized his lifetime for Sanatan Dharma. His wife Ramabai was a virtuous woman. Some of his compositions highlight that time social incidences. Ramabai as also traveling to surrounding places by riding the horse to interact with people. Knowing as an important & holy place, Rayji moved to Paithan from Aurangabad. He built a temple and established Ganapati, Ram Panchaytan, Balaji & Gopal Krishna. AT the age of 55 yrs, Rayji decided to finish his Avtar Karma by having “Jal Samadhi” in the riverbank of Godavari. He decided t on upcoming “Chaitra Shudha Shashthi” Shake 1675 (A.D. 1753). People from surroundings gather inn paithan in the form of Dindis (processions). The day raised. The Dindi (proession) started from Ram Mandir with fanfare to Chakratirtha, bank of Godavri River. Rayji entered the river and sat on a flowering stage with Padmasana (Lotus Posture). Every one was praying when he consoled all people and blessed them. Sant Shivdin Nath pushed flowerig stage in Godavari. With virtue of oga, Rayji convered his body in to ash. As a blessing, devotees collected the flowers. His made cussoms of Kirtan & festivals is till running in Ram Mandir. The festival of Ram Navami is being celebrated from Rayji till date. Six important events of Rayji’s life, that happened on CVhitra Shudha Shashthi are 1 Birth 2. Upnayan (Thread Ceremony) 3. Gurupdesh 4. Ramkrishna Darshan 5 Chaturthashram 6. Jal Samadhi
